Hop on the e-Bus in Jackson or Sonora to get Your Taxes Done for Free

Sonora & Jackson, CA…Need help filing your federal and state income taxes?
The e-Bus will be in Jackson on April 9-10 and in Sonora on April 11-12 providing free tax prep to those earning $54,000 or less, the Amador Tuolumne Community Action Agency announced. The bus will be staffed with IRS-certified Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) preparers, who will complete returns and check to see if taxpayers qualify for the expanded, cash-back California Earned Income Tax Credit, or CalEITC.

“We’re very excited to bring the e-Bus to the foothills for the first time,” said Raj Rambob of ATCAA. “Just make an appointment, bring your tax documents and a VITA preparer will complete your returns on the spot. It’s easy.”

The bus, which is equipped with computer work stations, will be parked in Jackson at the Jackson Creek Shopping Center and in Sonora at the Junction Shopping Center. Call or go online for directions or more information.

Appointments are available from 10 am-6 pm. For an appointment, call the ATCAA Tax line at 209-283-4021.

Through CalEITC and the companion federal EITC, families can boost their refund by hundreds or even thousands of dollars. All qualified families need to do to receive these valuable credits is file their tax returns.

Plus, CalEITC has been expanded in a big way for tax year 2017.

With the CalEITC expansion, anyone earning about $22,300 or less may qualify for the credit. In the past, the upper income threshold was about $14,000.

In the past, only those with W-2 income could claim CalEITC. With the expansion, people can use self-employment income and/or W-2 income to qualify.

Those who earn $54,000 or less may qualify for the federal EITC.
