Longtime Calaveras Resident Jason Paul Berry died Saturday, April 14, 2018. He was 63. Born in Los Angeles, California, on 8 August 1954. During his parents quest for California from Vermont, his first home was a motel room where his Mom and Dad used a dresser drawer and swaddling clothes for his short time there in Los Angeles. His Mom and Dad traveled with Baby Jason to the Bay Area and setlled in Palo Alto for a short time. Next they moved to Milpitas and eventualy settled in Fremont. While in the Bay area, Jason’s Parents started a family business ” Metal Craft” where Jason grew up and later worked in the very successful family business.

In 1969 Jason and his younger siblings moved to Paloma, California in Calaveras County, where Jason converted from a City Boy to a Country Boy. He learned to ride horses, cut and stack hay, maintain a complicated well system and all the Ranch Boy duties of caring for 20 horses, 300 chickens, milk cows, bulls, ducks,dogs,cats and many other critters. He loved riding horses,motorcycles,boats,camping and hunting. He raised two sons in Paloma, Jason Paul Berry Jr and James Berry and Grandsons, Brandon Berry and Jordan Berry also of Paloma. He is survived by his Step Mother, Helen Berry of San Andreas, Ex-Wife Glenda (Waldrop) Berry, Sister Lorry (Lorraine) Weatherby of Paloma, Sister Jennifer Berry of Valley Springs, Sister Lynne Calvert of Yelm, Washington, Brother Carlton (Deme) Berry II of Elk Grove, Grandsons, Brandon Berry and Jordan Berry, Stepsister Jeanne Berry, Stepsister Lila Grover, Stepbrother Richard Berry and Stepbrother James Harrison of San Andreas and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Father, Carlton Berry; Mother, Rita Berry, and Brothers George Berry and Rex Berry. Jason loved his family and was proud to be the oldest Brother at “The Family Ranch” in Paloma.

Jason worked as a Paper Delivery Boy in the Bay Area, as a laboror at Spence’s Feed Store in Angels Camp, in the Family Metal Plating Business, then as a Truck Driver for J.S. Trucking in Lodi ,D. H. Winn Trucking in Lockeford, then as Trucking Business Partner with his Father. His favorite job was driving a Tow Truck for Campbells Chevron in Jackson, Ca. He was known by all his bosses to be a very dedicated and hard worker.
Jason was known to help hundreds of people in time of need or in emergencies. He responded to car lock outs, emergency food, emergency shelter, safety from danger, vehicle breakdowns, etc 24/7. He had a soft spot for children and women in need. He always did all he could for those in need and many times gave his last dollar to help people, even those he did not know.

A Public Funeral will be held at San Andreas Memorial Chapel, 254 W. St. Charles St., San Andreas on Saturday April 21, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Followed by a Celebration of Life at Gold Strike Village, 1925 Gold Strike Road Club House.
