Mokelumne Hill, CA…Late in the afternoon on May 6th a 20 year old Valley Springs man was driving a 2001 Mazda3, eastbound on SR-26, and was stopped for the posted stop sign at SR-49. A 56 year old Vallecito woman was driving a Mitsubishi Montero northbound on SR-49, approaching SR-26 at an unknown speed. The Valley Springs man failed to yield the right of way and entered the intersection at the same time Mitsubish entered the intersection. As a result, the front of Mazda collided with the left side of the Mitsubishi.
The force of the impact caused the Montero to travel out of control and roll over before coming to rest on the north shoulder of SR-49. Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor to this collision. The collision remains under investigation.
Two occupants of the Mitsubishi sustained major injuries. The 56 year old female driver was taken to Modesto Memorial and an 11 female juvenile was flow to UC Davis with major injuries.
