San Andreas, CA…During the last 3 years the Mark Twain Health Care District has worked continuously on behalf of all Calaveras County residents to develop the best solution to sustain and expand our only hospital and its many clinics. A major step forward was taken on January 24, 2018 when the Board unanimously approved a resolution supporting a new lease (Measure A) between Dignity Health and the Mark Twain Medical Center Corporation.
On June 5th Calaveras County voters spoke with a strong and unified voice by approving Measure A by much more than a simple majority. The Health Care District could not be more energized by this decisive vote ensuring up to 30 years of continued healthcare for all. We celebrate this pivotal occasion with our many stakeholders, including: patients, hospital employees and medical staff, and ancillary health services.
The District will now finalize the master lease documents and we anticipate the new lease will be in effect no later than September 30, 2018. The new lease will provide funding opportunities for new clinics in Angels Camp and Valley Springs. Lease revenue will be designated to fill important healthcare gaps in the county such as behavioral health, children’s health, specialty telehealth services, prevention programs, chronic disease management and senior living facilities.
The District Board would like to thank all the voters, the county and community leaders, town-hall participants, the Mark Twain Medical Center leadership, and Dignity Health for their wisdom and will-power to make this new lease a reality.
The Mark Twain Health Care District Board meets the fourth Wednesday of every month at 7:30 AM in the Mark Twain Medical Center classrooms. All are welcome.
