A Guide to Hiking Trails at Big Trees State Park

Arnold, CA…For all trails, it is recommended to carry water, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a light snack. Remember to Leave No Trace: pack it in, pack it out! Good hiking shoes or boots are important, especially for more difficult trails:

North Grove: An easy walking loop trail, just under two miles long. Allow 1 to 2 hours.

Grove Overlook: A short, moderately rugged trail that extends from the North Grove up the hillside. Allow 1 to 2 hours.

River Canyon Trail: A more strenuous four-mile hike (8 miles round-trip) from the North Grove to the River Picnic Area, via the Scenic Overlook. Allow 4 to 5 hours.

Lava Bluffs: A moderately strenuous 2.5 mile lollipop loop trail over rugged terrain. Beware of poison oak. Allow 2 to 3 hours.

Bradley Grove: A moderate 2.5 mile loop trail highlighting a grove of young Giant Sequoia planted in the 1950s. Allow 2 to 3 hours.

South Grove: A moderate 5 mile (round-trip) hike with optional loop. Features the largest tree in the park. Allow 3 to 4 hours.

Meadow Boardwalk: A short, easy, beautiful walk in the middle of the North Grove campground!
