Tuolumne, CA…Caltrans will conduct a full closure of eastbound and westbound State Route 132 (SR-132) in Tuolumne County, to replace a failing culvert that is used to carry water under the road. The closure is scheduled to begin at 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, and the work is expected to be finished by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 5, 2018. This will be a full 24/7 closure during the length of the project and a marked detour will be in place. The culvert is approximately 1.5 miles east of Bonds Flat Road and 1 mile west of Merced Falls Road. The culvert was damaged during the storrns that rock. western Tuolumne County last spring, and repairs were delayed until after Labor Day to minimize impact on the region’s economically critical summer tourism season.
Caltrans will remove the damaged metal culvert, which is 10 feet in diameter and extends approximately 100feet underground, and replace it with a new concrete culvert of the same dimensions. The roadway will need to rernain close due to the open trench, which is required to remove the damaged pipeline and to install the replacement pipeline. The damag. culvert is 30 feet under the road.
The project is estimated to cost 53 million and is being performed by Ford Construction of Lodi. Motorists should expect delays of 15 minutes.
DETOUR: Eastbound travelers on SR-132 turn right on Hayward Road, left on Ranchito Drive, and left on Merceci Falls Road – which connects to SR-132 east of the project. Westbound travelers turn left on Merced Falls Road, right on Ranchito Drive, and right on Hayward Road – which connects to SR-132 west of the project.
