San Andreas, CA…During this past weekend there were many instances throughout the County where residents and visitors parked vehicles on County and State Routes to stop and enjoy the snow. Unfortunately, by parking in the road and along the County right-of-way personal vehicles kept County staff from clearing the snow in several areas and created a serious hazard for the traveling public and our Public Works snow removal staff. Calaveras County Public Works Department requests that all residents and visitors to Calaveras County be aware of Calaveras County Ordinance No. 2154 – Prohibits Parking During Snow Removal Operations. This ordinance states the following:
The parking or standing of vehicles on the right-of-way of any county road during snow removal operations conducted by or on behalf of the County is prohibited. “Snow removal operations” shall be deemed to be ongoing whenever snow is present on the right-of-way of a County road.
This law provides for all such vehicles to be towed (at the owner’s expense) so as not to interfere with snow removal operations and equipment. The vehicle owner is responsible for the repair of any vehicle that is parked in the right-of-way and is damaged by snow removal operations.
Please contact Calaveras County Public Works immediately at (209) 754-6402 if you have any questions on this ordinance and to report any road related issues.
