Murphys, CA…Albert Eugene Courtright left this world very suddenly on April 14, 2019 in Murphys, California.Albert was born November 10, 1942 to Eugene and Francis Courtright in San Diego, California. From there the family settled in Taft, California. He graduated from Bakersfield High School and attended Fresno State University. He served in the United States Marine Corp. as a reserve for two years and he was very proud to have served his country. His Military background helped prepare him for his life in Law Enforcement. In 1966 he joined the California Highway Patrol, his first post in 1967 was in Baldwin Park, in Los Angeles County where he served as a motorcycle officer. In 1971 he transferred the San Andreas office of the California Highway Patrol. In 1973 he started his Residence Post in Arnold. His beat was from the top of Ebbetts Pass to Hathaway Pines. He also performed the duty of EMT with his Residence Post because he was always the first on the scene on his beat. In 1997 after 31 years of service he retired. In 1998 he joined the Calaveras County Sheriff Department where he served as a Boat Officer in the summer and a Court Bailiff in the winter. He served at the Sheriffs Dept. for 20 years.
Al served 50 plus years in Law Enforcement. He was a Boy Scout leader in Arnold for many years and taught Hunters Safety Course to just about everyone in the Arnold area. He gave endless hours to the community which he loved.
He was one of a kind, a very special man that loved God, Country and Community. He loved and became a big part of the Ebbetts Pass Community. A true Officer of the Law always giving of himself.
He is survived by his wife Kathryn of 47 years. His children, Kary Ott, Mark Courtright and Rachel Crosby, his grandchildren Amber Ott, Katrina Dillon, Logan Ott, Ashley Hoyles, Dr. Matthew Steele, Alyssa Courtright, Hunter and Dylan Crosby, seven great-grandchildren with twins on the way and one great-great- grandson and all that loved him our community.
He is proceeded in death by his son Michael Courtright, his granddaughter Melissa Courtright and his parents Eugene and Francis Courtright.
Celebration of life will be held at Ironstone Vineyards May 11 from 2pm-6pm.

Al Courtright was an hononorable man. A servant to our community. He was always respectful and kind to any of our kids and grandson when they needed correction. Thank you Al for your service to our country and community.
