Sonora, CA…On Thursday, May 16, 2019 just before 8:30 pm, a 21 year old female Tuolumne resident was driving a 1991 Chevrolet pickup, traveling westbound on Highway 108 approaching Hess Avenue. For unknown reasons, the driver allowed the vehicle to cross over solid double yellow lines, across the eastbound lane, and off of the south road edge down a steep embankment.
The driver, solo occupant, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled numerous times. The driver was pronounced deceased on scene by paramedics. The cause of this collision is pending further investigation. Alcohol may have been a factor in this collision.
The identity of the driver is pending notification to next of kin.
