Hogan Fireworks Fuels Reduction

San Andreas, CA…The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) will be conducting a hazardous fuel reduction burn in the New Hogan Reservoir area of Valley Springs, on Wednesday, June 5, 2019. The burn encompasses approximately 8-10 acres of annual grasses along the shoreline of New Hogan Reservoir. The purpose of the burn is to clear hazardous fuels on the site used for the “Fireworks over New Hogan” pyrotechnics show, allowing for a cleared area to be used during the display.

The burn is anticipated to begin between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. and is expected to last between two and four hours. The public may see smoke or fire during these times near the Hogan Lake Observation Point near Hogan Dam Road and the United States Army Corps of Engineers Headquarters office.

Control lines and the lake shoreline will be used to prevent the spread of fire from areas outside the burn unit. Firefighters will remain at scene until all hotspots are out. Cooperating agencies assisting CAL FIRE with the burn include United States Army Corps of Engineers, Calaveras County Air Pollution Control District, and Calaveras Consolidated Fire District.
