Mokelumne Hill, CA…The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is preparing to begin a project to install new stop signs on State Route 49 (SR-49) at the intersection with SR26 in Mokelumne Hill. When the new signs are installed, the intersection will be a 4-way stop intersection. Key elements of the project include: • installation a four-way stop intersection • installation of red flashing beacons and signs to alert motorists to stop ahead • installation of “4-way stop” signs.
This is an interim traffic safety measure designed to improve traffic safety at this intersection to reduce the likelihood of broadside collisions.
The signs will be installed on Saturday, July 27, 2019.
Planning is underway to determine the long-range plan for intersection improvements at this
location. Community input will be solicited to help guide the development of the long-range plan.
This work is scheduled to begin as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents,
weather, availability of equipment, and/or materials and construction related issues.
