Call for Artists Everywhere for “Safe Space” Exhibit in Jackson

Jackson, CA…Call-to-Artists: Calling all artists of all ages, all disciplines, and skills to submit works to “Safe Space”—an art show celebrating the courage and beauty of rural, queer communities. By highlighting the experiences of the marginalized and disenfranchised, “Safe Space” serves to bring new opportunities for understanding the value of diversity in our rural community. Open world-wide for all rural LGBTQ/Ally artists, this show is produced by the Amador County Arts Council in collaboration with Tri-County LGBTQ Alliance, Amador PFLAG, Amador County Suicide Prevention Coalition (SPEAK), Sierra Wind Wellness and Recovery Center, and Blue Mountain Coalition for Youth and Families. “Safe Space” is a perfect art show for all rural, LGBTQ/Ally artists, who want to nurture intercultural and inclusive rural communities.

Intent to Submit must be received by September 27th. Each artist may enter one piece. Pieces may be for sale by the artist. If you would like to submit art to this show: email the coordinator, Cynthia at cynthia.amadorarts@gmail.com, subject line: “Intent to Submit, Safe Space”.

Once signed up, artists must prepare their works for hanging or installation and deliver them to the Amador County Arts Council by October 11th. The location is in Jackson, CA at 617 South CA-Hwy 49 in the Mother Lode Plaza, and the open hours are Monday-Friday, 2:00 to 6:00 pm.

If you need art supplies or resources, notify the Amador County Arts Council for assistance. The “Safe Space” exhibit will run from October 25th through December 20th, Monday through Friday, from 2-6pm, closed for holidays on November 25-29. The Opening Reception, free and open to the public, will be Friday, November 15th from 4-7pm. This reception will include music, snacks, and performance artists.
