Murphys, CA…..On Wednesday, December 2, 2020, Rosemarye Elizabeth Montoya Mortensen passed away at home after living a vivacious life of 100 years. The only daughter of Andrew Montoya and Marye Montoya West, born on March 31, 1920 in Oakland, CA. A native Californian, she was raised in San Pablo, CA. She graduated from Richmond High School and was a member of the Valkyrs sorority. Rosemarye worked for AT&T during her early adulthood and joined the Eastern Star at the young age of 20. She was an 80 year long-standing member of the Eastern Star.
She married Charles Ray Mortensen on June 9, 1940 and had two children together, Leonard Mortensen and Linda Moniz, raising their family in San Leandro. They enjoyed retirement together traveling locally and abroad. They loved living full-timed life in their RV as they traveled around the US and were actively involved in the NCT (National Camping Travelers, a Masonic Family Camping Club), finally settling down in Murphys. They lived in Murphys Diggins 38 years. She was active at the Murphys Senior Center and enjoyed playing weekly bingo at the Diggins.
She was survived by her daughter, Linda, and four generations of loving grandchildren.
