Coloma, CA…The Amador- El Dorado Unit of CAL FIRE will be conducting a prescribed, live fire training burn on the Bacchi Ranch Vegetation Management Project (VMP) near the town of Coloma. Dependent upon any restrictions set forth by the El Dorado County Air Quality Management District and favorable fire weather conditions, this burn will commence on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, from approximately 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Smoke may be visible in the area. Live training burns are vital to introduce new firefighters to the dynamics of vegetation fire suppression. All burning operations must
adhere to strict safety guidelines. Containment, and contingency lines must be in place prior to any attempt to burn. Several engine companies will be staged, and trained fire crews are on site to support the exercise. By working together in a training environment, firefighters will develop needed skills and form cooperative relationships to provide a more effective and efficient response to future fire emergencies.
This burn will also add to the fuel break on approximately 120 acres within the Bacchi Ranch VMP, reducing the chance of devastation from a catastrophic wildfire to nearby communities within the Georgetown Divide.
If the burning conditions become unfavorable for a safe, efficient burn, operations will be immediately stopped.
