Angels Camp, CA… Childs/Hurst Scholarship Awarded by Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) The Beth E. Childs/Genna Hurst Renewable Scholarship, administered by CCF, was awarded recently. The 2022 Scholarship winner is Calaveras High School student Sierra Lowry. See photo below. The scholarship is for $1,000 a year, renewable for four years.
Sierra plans to become a Registered Nurse. She will be attending “her dream school”, University of Nevada-Reno.
Sierra has maintained over a 4.0 GPA throughout her high school years and has participated in many activities and clubs including Interact and CTE Medical Science. Volleyball, basketball and swimming were a huge part of her school life, although a knee injury kept her sidelined from both swimming and basketball last fall. She was recognized for her participation in these sports with an Honorable Mention for the 2022 year.
Upon being presented this prestigious scholarship, Sierra stated: “I am grateful beyond words for being chosen to receive this scholarship. I’ve had my mind set on pursuing a nursing career since I was eight and have worked really hard to get where I am today. This scholarship will help me continue my education at the University of Nevada Reno School of Public Health. I’ve learned that dreams really do come true as long as you put your mind to it and strive for success.” Congratulations, Sierra!
