Jackson, CA…On August 29, 2022, Hospice of Amador & Calaveras began demolition on their property located at 10776 Argonaut Lane, which many fondly refer to as the “Ledger Building. After the last tenant vacated, the agency was given an estimate to repair the building and bring it up to code before it could be rented again. Unfortunately, the cost to do that was clearly beyond the agency’s ability.
Keeping in step with its mission to provide hospice care regardless of ability to pay, the agency explored how to use the property to better serve the community, and the decision was made to create a new donation intake area with the space. The improved and enlarged area will allow for donations to be safely dropped off and processed, and more quickly make their way onto the retail floor of the adjacent thrift store.
Thanks to an anonymous donor, the cost of the demolition was almost entirely funded as the first part of a two-phase project. Next, the land will be graded and prepared for phase two: a new intake area with a separate driveway for donors to pull through to drop off their donations with the assistance of intake personnel.
Executive Director Ariane Debien said, “We are so very grateful for the anonymous donation we received to help fund this project. Our goal is to create an exceptional experience for our donors; our current parking lot design made drop-offs challenging, especially on our busiest days. We appreciate our donors and shoppers so much and truly hope this project will make their experience even better.”
Although phase one is just getting underway, the organization would like to give special thanks to Wunschel & Sons, Inc., hired to perform the demolition project, and to Toma and Associates who will be donating their surveying services once the demolition has concluded.
The Jackson Thrift Store will be closed during the demolition phase, from August 29 through September 1. During this time, the incredible team at the Jackson Thrift Store are revamping the store layout for a better customer experience and restocking shelves. They look forward to welcoming the community back on Friday, September 2.
