Angels Camp Police Department On Passing of Retired Police Service Dog, Turner

Angels Camp, CA…On Jan 28, 2016, retired police service dog Turner had to be euthanized. Turner served with the police department from 2005-2010, and was the first narcotics detection K-9 in the history of the department. His handler was Sergeant Todd Fordahl, who was Turner’s handler for the duration of his service. Turner set the standard for all future police service dogs in the department, and during the course of his career he participated in the service of numerous search warrant operations in this County, as well as Tuolumne, Stanislaus, and San Joaquin Counties. Additionally, he was responsible for many arrests and the seizure of illegal narcotic proceeds totaling more than $26,000,00. He also served our community in the schools, and by his involvement in various K-9 demonstrations throughout Calaveras and Tuolumne Counties.

Turner also represented the department and the City by participating in various police canine competitions, winning numerous awards that were well documented during the course of his career. His final police competition occurred in South San Francisco in 2010, where he competed against 19 other canine teams and finished in first place.

Turner’s remains were cremated, and his ashes will be interned at the Franklin Pet Cemetery in Merced, CA, where they have a police K-9 memorial. He would have turned 14 in August.
