You May Still Qualify For A New House on Your Property

Mountain Ranch, CA…Residents who lost their uninsured or underinsured homes in the Butte Fire last September are encouraged to contact Calaveras Recovers to see how the all-volunteer group may be able to assist them in rebuilding their homes. “We have trained Personal Advocates standing by ready to assess people’s unmet immediate needs and long-term housing needs,” said Allen Sender, Board Chair of Calaveras Recovers. “Our main goal is to help get people back into homes whose insurance or government aid programs were not enough.” The group is expected to break ground on its first two homes in April, weather permitting.

Calaveras Recovers will supplement the funds from FEMA, CalOES, and any early PG&E payouts to purchase material and then will leverage that money with volunteer labor from throughout North America. Already several national, faith-based groups have pledged to come build dozens of homes for the uninsured: Mennonite Disaster Services, United Methodist Committee on Relief, Lutheran Disaster Response, and California Southern Baptist Disaster Service to name a few.

Fire survivors are urged to call (209) 297-0970 during normal weekday hours in order to begin the process of evaluating short and long-term needs – including the possible construction of a modest home. Survivors still living in the area may visit the Calaveras Recovers office at the Mountain Ranch Community Park or call (209) 214-6834 for general questions.
