Sonora, CA…Friends and community members, Today is bittersweet. After 34 years in law enforcement, I have decided it is time for me to retire. Serving alongside the men and women of Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office for the last 11 years has been an honor of a lifetime. I cannot thank my staff enough for their selfless dedication to our great community.
I would also like to thank our residents, community partners, and allied agencies for their unwavering support during my tenure as your Sheriff. Together, we have overcome challenges, achieved milestones, and collaborated to keep our community safe. I am profoundly grateful and will always cherish the relationships and memories we have created together.
In preparing for the future of the Sheriff’s Office, my command staff and I have developed a strong succession plan for a seamless transition. I am recommending that the Board of Supervisors appoint Captain David Vasquez as Sheriff for the remainder of my term. Undersheriff Evans will stay on to help with the transition. I am confident that their leadership, experience, and dedication will ensure that the Sheriff’s Office and our community will continue to thrive.
My last day of office will be February 29th, 2024.
Sincerely,
Sheriff Bill Pooley”
