Young Actors Invited to Summer on Stage!

Murphys, CA…With summer right around the corner we want to bring attention to Murphys Creek Theatre’s summer youth theatre camp, Summer on Stage! Summer on Stage is headed into its second year of conservatory style actor training. Actors aged 9-17 are encouraged to embark on a 6-week journey through a myriad of subjects surrounding theatrical production.

The camp starts at 10:00 am and goes until 4:00 pm with Voice & Movement for the actor and moves into Acting, Shakespeare, and into rehearsal for a full-length Shakespeare play. Mixed into that standard schedule are classes featuring:

Improv, Stage Combat, Lighting, Sound design, Set Building & Design, Stage Management, Production Management, Dance, Text Analysis, Playwrighting and much more!

We are able to accomplish this through a national network of working theatre professionals. Diversity of thought and technique are of great importance when finding the right way to give children information in a way that they will benefit most from it.

This year’s featured Shakespeare play is A Midsummer Night’s Dream, a story featuring love, mischievous fairies, magic, a group of misfit actors, and a series of hilarious romance mix-ups from misused fairy potions. Midsummer is sure to have the kids laughing and excited to work on beautiful language and parents in wonder at what their kids accomplish. But don’t take it from me, listen to what a parent from last year said:
“Our daughter had the time of her life at Summer On Stage. She was concerned at first that it was such a long day, and that it would take up so much of her summer, but after the first day she was hooked, and when it was over she didn’t want to stop. She made so many great friends and learned such valuable skills – it really took her acting and understanding of theater as both a craft and a business to the next level. The program directors were so passionate about teaching, the kids loved them, and all the professional guest teachers enriched and diversified the program even more.  The final Shakespeare performance was really fantastic, a huge feat for such a wide age range of young actors. Overall, MCT delivered a stellar first year of programming. Highly recommend this program.”
