Angels Camp, CA….We have received confirmation from Officer Butler of the Stockton CHP office that all of the vehicles from 49er Motors have now been accounted for and were part of normal transactions. We have also been assured that there are no open DMV issues. The closure of 49er Motors leaves a hole in the community and businesses like it are a vital part of our local economy. With the exception of a few large chain stores most of our local businesses are the hopes and dreams of people who live, work and raise their families here. They are not faceless entities but the people at the next table in a restaurant, pushing a shopping cart behind you in the store & sitting next to you at a sporting event.
We know that the Butte Fire hurt 49er Motors significantly. Instead of normal predictable sales, their sales flatlined! When businesses struggle and close sometimes things can be messy and it may take time to get things cleaned up. When our local entrepreneurs invest and try to build businesses it also means they risk failure as well.
We want a local businesses community that encourages people to invest, build and innovate. We want our communities to be places that help pick people up after dreams don’t quite work out as they planned, dust them off and applaud them as they roll the dice on their next venture.
Below is a statement from Greg Scott
“I am a Bret Harte Graduate and have lived in Angels Camp most of my life. I have strived to be a good member of my community. I volunteer when I can, I donate when I can, I have sponsored countless sports teams. I have family here that has been deeply hurt by these slanderous accusations.
The ONLY thing that I am guilty of is having a failing business and that I let my employees down by not selling enough cars so they could keep their jobs.
Unfortunately my gamble on putting in a business in my community didn’t pay off.
I would like to thank all of our customers which I will miss on a daily basis. I would also like to thank the countless friends in this community that have reached out to me in support of my character.”
