San Andreas, CA…The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office proudly participated in the 2024 Red Ribbon Week, an annual initiative promoting drug-free lifestyles. As part of the celebration, Sheriff Rachelle Whiting and Undersheriff Chris Villegas selected the top three winning drawings from each classroom who participated in a coloring contest. Sheriff Whiting later met with these local students and presented prizes that included school supplies like calculators, pencils, rulers, notebooks, and lanyards.
In addition to rewarding the winners, the remaining students in the participating classrooms received backpacks filled with similar prizes, further promoting the importance of staying drug-free. “Red Ribbon Week is about more than raising awareness—it’s about empowering our children to make positive choices for their future,” said Sheriff Whiting.
A special thank you is extended to School Resource Officer Scott McNurlin, for his role in organizing the event and leading numerous educational presentations at local schools. Additionally, the Sheriff’s Department’s Special Investigations Division presented in several classrooms, providing students with valuable information on drug identification and presentation to further engage students in understanding the dangers of drug use.
The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community, focusing on building positive relationships with schools and residents.
