Pine Grove, CA…On 12/9/2024 at approximately 1220 hours Party #4 was driving Vehicle #4 stopped in a posted (multiple signs) and staffed one way traffic control area eastbound on SR-88 just west of Toyon Rd in Pine Grove. Party #3 was stopped in Vehicle #3 in the traffic directly behind Party #4. Party #2 was traveling westbound in Vehicle #2 and had just passed Party #4 at approximately 15 MPH just exiting the traffic control. Party #1 was traveling eastbound at an unknown speed behind an uninvolved vehicle. The uninvolved vehicle observed Vehicle #1 approaching at a speed they were concerned Vehicle #1 would not be able to stop before hitting their vehicle. The uninvolved vehicle moved as far to the right as possible as Vehicle #1 passed on the left into the westbound lane. Vehicle #1 impacted the front of Vehicle #2 traveling westbound. Vehicle #1 continued eastbound back into the eastbound lane and impacted the rear of stopped Vehicle #3. The impact of Vehicle #1 to Vehicle #3 caused Vehicle #3 to be pushed forward where Vehicle #3 impacted the right rear corner of Vehicle #4. During the multiple impacts, Vehicle #1 overturned onto its’ roof, partially ejecting unrestrained Party #1 causing fatal injuries.

Sounds like the uninvolved vehicle invited Vehicle #1 to pass them in a possible blind spot. Driver may not have known or could even see around the uninvolved vehicle while passing only to discover vehicle #2 right there traveling at a slower than normal speed.
The rest was unavoidable and heartbreaking sequence of events.
