Golden Mussel Threat Closes Beardsley Boat Ramp Thru June 15

Pinecrest, CA…At the request of Tri-Dam, the Stanislaus National Forest has issued Forest Order STF-16-2026-03; effective April 15 through June 15, 2026, closing the Beardsley Lake Boat Ramp for all use.
“Tri-Dam has been advised by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife that the Golden Mussel is a threat to Beardsley Lake and all its associated infrastructure for water delivery and hydropower production,” explained Forest Supervisor, Jason Kuiken.
To prevent the spread of this invasive species to Beardsley and subsequent downstream partners – Pacific Gas & Electric, United States Bureau of Reclamation, irrigators and water treatment plants in the valley – the Tri Dam Project has requested the boat ramp be closed. The action is aligned with actions taken by many reservoirs in California in response to the Golden Mussel threat.

    What’s the proof?

Golden mussels impact ecosystems and infrastructure in multiple ways:

Biofouling: They rapidly colonize intake pipes, water filtration systems, boat hulls, docks, and industrial cooling structures. Their dense colonies cause clogging and reduced efficiency, leading to costly maintenance and downtime for municipalities, industries, and water utilities.

Biodiversity Loss: These invasive filter feeders outcompete native mussels and other benthic species, smothering habitats and disrupting food webs. As they dominate ecosystems, native species decline—especially those already threatened or endangered.

Energy Sector Impacts: In Brazil and Argentina, golden mussels have caused millions of dollars in damage to hydroelectric facilities, irrigation systems, and water treatment plants. Their ability to block pipes and corrode infrastructure leads to ongoing operational disruptions.

Water Quality Changes: As prolific filter feeders, golden mussels alter nutrient cycling and aquatic microbial communities. This affects water clarity, oxygen levels, and overall ecosystem function, which can ripple across entire aquatic food chains.

Recreational Impacts: Infestations can lead to waterbody closures, mandatory boat inspections, increased launch and entry fees, and restrictions on fishing or shellfish harvesting due to ecosystem degradation or contamination risks. Their sharp shells can also litter shorelines, posing hazards for swimmers and pets.

Property Value Decline: Waterfront property owners may experience decreased property values due to impaired water quality, increased maintenance needs, and reduced recreational access. Shoreline infestations can diminish the visual and recreational appeal of lakes and rivers.

While what you say is correct, the fact is they have found no trace of the mussel above the delta. A Melones ranger I chated with admitted this, and said the water conditions up here can’t support them; lack of calcium specifically. Don Pedro has no restrictions and they have seen no evidence of the mussel. Closing Beardsley is insane, utterly ridiculous.
All that aside, the picture is of Donnell, not Beardsley.

Don Pedro isn’t checking for mussels.

Oh, indeed they are. Just not checking your boat.

When will the nazi, lackeys show up with their pamphlets, they are bigger threat to the public than the “golden mussel”! That pamphlet means nothing, just like the Melones boat ramp, no proof, but a picture?

    Hey local Trumpers.

It is time you face reality, admit what’s really happening with Trump’s brain, then admit to yourself that you were wrong.
Its okay, I have a few acquaintances that have already done it.

Go ahead, take that big step, it will be a huge relief.

You were just in a vulnerable state, and fell for a conmans line. You are not the first, won’t be the last. Cut your losses now, you’ll feel better and relieved you did.

And yes, the Pope is a better man.
