Volunteers Needed For National Public Lands Day

Sonora, CA… To celebrate National Public Lands Day, the Groveland District is hosting a volunteer work day on Saturday, September 24th to repair and resurface a raft and kayak launch at the popular Merals Pool put-in on the Tuolumne Wild and Scenic River.

Project work will include clearing out brush and downed trees, moving dirt and rocks, and installing features to reduce erosion. The results will be that boaters will have improved access to the water, and a much easier put-in.
Volunteers are asked to meet 7:30 am for coffee at the Groveland Ranger Station, located 8 miles east of Groveland on State Highway 120, before carpooling at 8:00 am from there to Merals Pool on Lumsden Road. The work day will last until 3:30 pm. Please wear closed-toe high-top shoes, gloves, long pants, and a long-sleeve shirt for the work. Bring swim gear and towel for enjoying the river after completing the project. Changing area and toilets are available at the project site.
