State Route 99 at Mariposa Road Interchange. The project widened a four-mile stretch of SR-99 from four to six lanes between the Crosstown Freeway and Arch Road. Crews also constructed a new interchange at Golden Gate Avenue; converted the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard Interchange to a two-way overcrossing; modernized the Main Street overcrossing; replaced the Mariposa Road Interchange to a full service interchange with new on and off-ramps, and sidewalks for pedestrians. In addition, a Park & Ride facility was constructed with approximately 90 new parking spots.

“SR-99 is one of the busiest transportation routes in San Joaquin County,” said Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty. “These improvements will ease traffic congestion and provide motorists with a smoother commute. We encourage commuters to use the new Park & Ride facility and take advantage of transit and carpooling to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”

“The completion of the South Stockton SR-99 widening is just one of the continuing partnership efforts between Caltrans and the San Joaquin Council of Governments to modernize Highway 99 — the workhorse of the California state highway system,” said SJCOG Executive Director Andrew Chesley.

The project received approximately $132 million from Proposition 1B, a 2006 voter-approved transportation bond. To date, approximately $19.2 billion in Proposition 1B funds have been distributed statewide. The project also received $47.5 million from SJCOG’s Measure K.

With this project and the SR-99 Manteca Widening Project, Caltrans and its local partners have now widened 14 miles of SR-99 from SR-4 to Austin Road.
