Medical Center Recognized By CALNOC For Reducing Hospital Acquired Conditions

Sonora, CA… The Collaborative Alliance for Nursing Outcomes (CALNOC) has recognized Sonora Regional Medical Center as a 2016 Performance Excellence Award winner for exemplary work in reducing hospital acquired conditions in 2015.

Preventing Central Line-associated Blood Stream Infection (CLABSI) Infections (Critical Care)
Preventing Catheter-associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI) Infections (Critical Care)

With entire teams dedicated to special projects in the areas of patient safety, quality and infection prevention, Sonora Regional Medical Center has achieved excellent outcomes for its patients. “For many years we have been focused on identifying best practices and educating our staff on preventing hospital acquired infections. For example, we have achieved zero CAUTI by following guidelines on appropriate indications for catheter use and removing catheters as soon as they are no longer needed,” explains Marti Carter, RN, Director of Quality and Infection Prevention at Sonora Regional Medical Center. “In addition, at the end of 2014 we invested in specialized lifting and transferring equipment to help prevent workplace injuries when assisting patients out of bed, to the commode, or other patient mobilization. This equipment has also helped prevent falls by allowing our staff to safely assist patients.”

Sonora Regional Medical Center has participated in CALNOC’s registry database since 2011 and has been recognized as a Performance Excellence Award winner for the last three years in a row.
