San Andreas, CA…When the Butte Fire ended, hundreds of people were left homeless. CCAR Charities Inc. began to receive offers of travel trailers that the owners were willing to donate, but frequently they were located several hundred miles from here and the need was for someone who could tow them to Mountain Ranch, especially since many of the trailers were fifth wheels, which require a pickup with the right hitch in the bed.
An angel stepped up through Facebook and offered to go to where the trailers were located and deliver them for CCAR Charities. That angel’s name was Robert “Bubba” Avery. Bubba lives in Elk Grove and is a member of Masonic Lodge 173.
Rain or shine, he and a fellow lodge brother would get in Bubba’s pickup early in the morning, leave Elk Grove and drive to the town where the trailer donation was located. They would hook them up and set out for Calaveras County. A member of CCAR Charities would usually meet them in San Andreas and lead them up to the property where the family was waiting for their new home to arrive. Bubba would accept no pay, not even gas money, and he never turned down any request to go out again and tow another trailer up.
On December 3rd, Bubba Avery was honoured with the highest award that the Masons bestow, the Hiram award, and CCAR Charities wants to also recognize and thank him for the assistance he offered so freely to help the Butte Fire families. CCAR Charities certainly understands why he was recognized by his fellow Masons with this prestigious award. Congratulations Bubba Avery from the Calaveras County Association of Realtors.
These guys have done such a great deed in life. Nowadays very rarely you see anyone taking out time from their own lives to help strangers.
