CHP New Years Maximum Enforcement Period

San Andreas,CA…The New Year’s MEP (Maximum Enforcement Period) began at 6:00 pm Friday, December 30st and continued until 11:59 pm Monday, January 2nd. In Calaveras County the California Highway Patrol Officers handled 6 accidents. Two of these collisions resulted in the drivers being arrested for Driving Under the Influence. Both of these collision resulted with injuries sustained only to the DUI drivers. The remainder of the collisions was non-injuries.

The San Andreas CHP Officers were working hard at slowing motorists down. During the holiday weekend they wrote 63 citations. Most were for speeding including several mechanical violations. Unfortunately they did issue 4 citations to motorists for failing to wear their seat belts and 1 citation was for a child not being in a car seat.

The CHP would like to remind drivers that an unrestrained child in a car is at significant risk of injury or death in the event of a traffic collision. Protect your children by using age appropriate passenger restraint devices (safety seats or seat belts for older children). Also, seat belts save lives and prevent injuries. Do not put your own life at risk, or the life of your family or friends. PLEASE BUCKLE UP.
