San Andreas, CA…Winge and Phelps were traveling westbound on S. Petersburg Road in Vehicle-1 (Ford), west of N. Shore Ct. Winge needed to make a U-turn, but the reverse gear in Vehicle-1 was not functioning (a previously known issue). Phelps got out of Vehicle-1 to push it backwards, due to the reverse gear not functioning. Winge put Vehicle-1 in neutral and got out to help.

For unknown reasons, Vehicle-1 popped into drive, running Phelps over, and then colliding into a cable fence and a tree. Phelps was life flighted to Modesto Memorial for treatment of the major injuries he sustained.

Drugs and/or alcohol were not a contributing factor in this collision.
