Angels Camp, CA…On April, 19th 2017 at 10:44am John Aurthur Hubbell passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Coquille, OR on August 7th, 1938 he spent his childhood and early adult life growing up in South West Oregon. He came to Calaveras County in 1962, moving from Oregon on the promise of work. He found a job working for the Department of Forestry as a Dispatcher out of San Andreas, while employed there he was drafted into the Army in 1963. After basic training in Fort Ord, California he was stationed at the Army base in Carlise, PA. During this time he met and married his wife of fifty-two years, Jaynee Steigleman. In 1965 he moved back to Calaveras County with his wife Jaynee returning to his job at the Department of Forestry. From there he worked for American Forest Products for a short time, finally settling into a career working for PG&E as a Field Clerk. He worked in Rio Vista, Modesto, Davis, Stockton, Oakland, San Francisco, and Angels Camp retiring from PG&E after 28 years. After retirement he work briefly for Cal Farm Insurance in Angels Camp and Utica Power Authority of Angels Camp.
In August of 1972 he welcomed his son Matthew into the world. In 1990 the year of Matthew’s graduation from Bret Harte High School he joined The Grad Night Foundation serving as a volunteer and eventually becoming a Board Member for the next 25 years. He was a loving husband, father and grand-father. He loved living in Calaveras County, establishing a home and a family. He was proceeded on death by his father Harry Sutton Hubbell and mother Alice Aleine Jenkins. He is survived by his wife Jaynee Hubbell, son Matthew Hubbell (wife Akasha), grandchildren Sydney and Tyler Hubbell, brothers Lowell Hubbell and Harry Hubbell (wife Theresa) and sister’s Marsha Carpenter and Deidra Steffens.
