Copperopolis, CA…Robert Hamilton, 63 from Murphys sustained major injuries when he was struck by a vehicle on Hwy 4. Hamilton was involved in a collision with a deer on SR-4, west of Hunt Road. He parked his vehicle on SR-4 in the westbound traffic lane. He exited his vehicle, and began to search for the deer, in order to remove it from the roadway if needed. When he located the deer, an uninvolved vehicle had stopped to check on him. Hamilton began speaking with the driver of the uninvolved vehicle.
As he was standing near the driver’s door, of the uninvolved vehicle, a 46 year old Stockton man was driving his Mercedes eastbound on SR-4, approaching Hunt Road, and approaching Hamilton. He slowed the Mercedes down to approximately 20 mph when he noticed the vehicles stopped in the westbound traffic lane. As the Mercedes began to pass by the uninvolved vehicle, he was unable to see clearly due to the headlights from the other vehicles. The right front corner of Vehicle 1 then struck Hamilton who was standing on the double yellow lines.
Hamilton sustained major injuries and was taken to Mark Twain Medical Center for treatment.
