Assault in Angels Camp Leads to Assault with a Firearm, Child Endangerment & Drug Charges

Angels Camp, CA…On 06/19/17, at approximately 6:15 AM, an officer from the Angels Camp Police Department was dispatched to a report of suspicious people in the roadway, near the intersection of Gold Cliff Road and Pacific Avenue. Upon arrival the officer spoke with two subjects that related they were the victims of an assault involving a firearm. Further investigation led to an address in the 900 block of Crystal Street, where the suspect resides. A probation search was conducted and the handgun suspected to have been used in the assault, ammunition, and fifty-seven (57) seedling marijuana plants were located in the residence. Additionally, remnants and items used in the manufacturing of Butane Honey Oil were also located.

The suspect admitted to being involved in an altercation with the two subjects that were temporarily staying with him; however he denied using a firearm to expedite their departure. A 14 year old that was present during the incident was interviewed and confirmed that the handgun recovered was used during the incident.

Wyatt Philip Tripp, a 35 year old Angels Camp resident, was arrested and booked into the Calaveras County Jail on charges related to assault with a deadly weapon, (firearm) and child endangerment. The Calaveras County District Attorney’s Office has reviewed the case and added charges related to the manufacturing of a controlled substance. (Butane Honey Oil.) Civil remedies related to the unlawful marijuana grow are being pursued by Angels Camp Code Compliance.

Tripp admitted during an interview that he relocated to Calaveras County from Orange County, to participate in the commercial cannabis industry, and advised that he is involved with a commercial grow site in the county.
