Aerospace Industry Veteran, Harry F. Spencer, Jr., 82 Passed Away on May 10th

Arnold, CA…Harry F. Spencer, Jr., aged 82 passed away quietly at home in Roseville, CA on May 10, 2017. Harry was a 28 year resident of Calaveras County, spending the majority of his time living in Arnold and Angels Camp. Before moving up to Calaveras County Harry spent 35 years working at the NASA Ames Research Center in Sunnyvale, CA in the Mechanical Operations Branch. He worked on teams whose contributions culminated in the Apollo 11 Mission and Mans first landing on the moon. His career in the wind tunnels brought him into contact with many well-known projects such as the SR-71 Blackbird. He was happy to state that he “ran the board” for the 1/3rd Space Shuttle Model in the 80×120 wind tunnel at Moffett Field.

After retirement, he enjoyed a part time job as a security guard in Blue Lake Springs at Snowflake Lodge. Most of his life Harry was an avid car mechanic, teaching his stepson everything he knew about cars. Harry loved the mountains and spent many years fishing and camping up at White Pines Lake and his favorite, Lake Alpine.

Harry is survived by his wife of 33 years Linda Spencer, his two daughters Belinda and Karla, his stepchildren Matthew and Sarah as well as his six grandchildren. There will be a private memorial service honoring his military service in the Air Force and he will be laid to rest at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA. In lieu of flowers, please donate your time in his memory to your local FFA Chapter. Harry and Linda were both very involved in helping and loved being a part of the Bret Harte FFA.
