Murphys, CA…Learn the historical origins of Scottish and Irish tartans and kilts at a free cultural program at 7 p.m., Tuesday, August 8, at Murphys Irish Pub, 415 Main Street, downtown Murphys. The discussion will be led by Western Sierra Celtic Society member Don Burns of Murphys. With more than 2,300 Scottish and Irish tartan cloth patterns and colors registered, Burns will explain how they differ and should be properly worn. He will demonstrate the basics of kilt wear and will offer suggestions when buying a complete kilt outfit, which can cost $1,300.
The August 8 cultural program will be at the end of the Irish-Scottish club meeting. Meetings are 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at Murphys Irish Pub. Each will include a presentation on either Irish or Scottish history or culture.
