Sonora, CA…A 71-year-old man has been arrested for attempted murder charges after trying to run his neighbor over, following an argument. On Friday evening, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Tamarron Mobile Home Park on Mono Way in Sonora for a report of a vehicle driving into a home. Following an investigation and after speaking to witnesses on scene, Deputies learned 71-year-old Wayne Whitney went to his neighbor’s home and after a brief argument, got in his car and drove the vehicle into the man several times pinning him against his home.
At one point the man was wedged between the front passenger fender and the wall of the mobile home. Whitney continued to accelerate causing the front passenger tire to rub against the man’s legs. The man fell backwards into the paneling of the trailer which prevented him from becoming severely hurt. The victim luckily only sustained minor injuries.
California Highway Patrol Officers arrived on scene and determined Whitney was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Whitney was arrested and booked into the Tuolumne County Jail for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and vandalism.
