San Andreas, CA…Leroy Coleman Rader was a 5th generation Calaveras County resident descendant of pioneer families. He was born October 20, 1942 to Coleman Rader of Glencoe and Ruth (Carlton) Rader of West Point. He attended West Pont elementary and then Calaveras High, graduating in 1960. He then married his high school sweet heart Sandy Oneto in 1962. They resided in Glencoe then Spring Valley before building their home on the family ranch outside of San Andreas on Bear Mountain in 1973 where they raised their two children.
Leroy held numerous jobs as a logger, cowboy and truck driver, but his lifelong passion was his cattle and horses and working the family ranch. He was well known in the community and always had a story to tell. He died August 6, 2017 with his boots on doing what he loved, working his cattle with his grandson.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Sandy Rader, son and daughter-in-law Lane and Veronica Rader, daughter and son-in-law Libby and Dave Kassik, grandson Coleman Kassik and granddaughters Vanessa and Nancy all of San Andreas and his sister Cheryl Joses of Mountain Ranch. Graveside services were held Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Rader Ranch. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Andy Peek Livestock Scholarship, P.O. Box 558, Cottonwood, CA 96022.
