Temporary Fire Restrictions in Place at Moore Creek on Stanislaus National Forest

Sonora, CA…Fire restrictions are in effect in the Moore Creek area on Calaveras Ranger District, effective from August 18, 2017 through the end of the official 2017 fire season. Hot temperatures and heavy winter rains allowed grasses and other shrubs grow tall and then dry out, increasing the danger of fire in the area. Stanislaus National Forest Order No. STF-16-2017-07 limits building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire. Smoking is restricted, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, or while stopped in an area that is barren or cleared of all flammable material with at least a three-foot diameter. In addition, welding, or operating an acetylene, or other flammable material, torch with an open flame is restricted.

The perimeter of the Moore Creek Fire Restriction Area begins at the western boundary of the Mokelumne Wilderness at Salt Springs Reservoir and continues along the North Fork Mokelumne River. A map outlining the fire-restricted area is attached.

Violating any of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000.00 for an individual or $10,000.00 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both.
