San Andreas, CA…Robert “Bob” Applegate born October 23, 1941 passed away earlier this week from a fall. Born in Idaho to John and Dorothy Applegate he was the eldest of three children. His sister Carolyn preceded him in death. His younger sister Kathryn Snyder resides in Kerrville with her husband Dr. Eugene Snyder. From an early age, Bob was both a civic leader and volunteer. At the age of 12, he was at that time, the youngest Boy Scout to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. His high school years were spent playing football and being the class president. This was the start of his leadership and volunteerism that continued throughout his lifetime.

In 1960 he fell in love and married Diane Williams of Benicia California. During their courtship, he joined the United States Air Force and spent the majority of his enlistment overseas. He was at military bases in Korea and Japan. He worked in the Air Force as Military Police training K9’s and mastering Marksmanship. Upon returning to the United States he was stationed at Little Rock Arkansas Military Base. It was here that he and his wife welcomed his first born, Robert Wayne Applegate. A daughter, Teresa L. Applegate arrived a few years later as he was ending his Military career.

The family settled in his and Diane’s home town of Benicia California. It was during this time that Bob applied for and became a California Highway Patrol Officer. He worked out of the Vallejo office. A third child, John Raymond Applegate arrived and the family decided to move up to Calaveras County and leave the Bay Area.

Transferring to Calaveras County and working out of the San Andreas office, he volunteered his time teaching hunter safety courses as well as bike safety to elementary aged children.
Bob was very active in Civic leadership servicing on many boards, committee’s, and charitable organizations too numerous to mention.

His beloved wife Diane proceeded him in death almost 10 years to the date of her passing.
Bob is survived by three children, six grandchildren and two great grandsons.
Bob loved his community, his fellow Calaveras citizens and his dog pup pup.
