Sheriff and CUSD Superintendent Discuss School Safety

San Andreas, CA…This morning, 2-26-2018, Sheriff Rick DiBasilio and Calaveras Unified School District Superintendent Mark Campbell met at the Sheriff’s Office headquarters in San Andreas discussing general school safety and strengthening our partnership and abilities to respond to incidents at local school campuses.

There was a focused discussion regarding responses to schools for active shooter incidents as well as other general topics covered including emergency plans, door locks, and other site specific campus security issues. The Sheriff’s Office continues to participate in on campus drills and works with school site administrators to enhance safety measures.

Mark Campbell addressed recent concerns expressed by parents regarding school safety and reactions from law enforcement when reports of threats occur. Although the response and subsequent investigation outcome of every incident are not always publicized, the Sheriff’s Office continues to address these types of reports without delay with full investigations.

Sheriff DiBasilio remains committed to prioritizing school safety with conducting proactive needs assessments and ongoing training of staff, emphasizing that this is not just during times when the topic is more present from reactions of national events, but every day that the kids in our community are in school.
