Murphys, CA…Vallecito Union School Board Member, local businessman and community leader Tom Pratt announced today that he has earned the support of Controller Betty Yee for his State Senate campaign. “I am pleased to endorse Tom Pratt for California State Senate, District 8. Tom’s experience as a small business owner and his service on the school board are assets he will bring to the State Senate, advocating for the economic, educational, and social needs and opportunities for the residents and businesses in Senate District 8. Tom recently earned the California Democratic Party endorsement this month. Controller Yee’s endorsement is the latest in a string of endorsements for Tom that also includes CA State Senate Leader Pro Tem Kevin de Leon and Assembly member Richard Bloom.

“This endorsement shows that my work in the community and experience have broad appeal. I’ll fight to address access to healthcare for rural communities, work to expand broadband availability, increase job training and apprenticeships and increase fire protection,” said Tom Pratt.

With parents who never graduated college but always provided their children with the opportunity to succeed, Tom has demonstrated commitment throughout his career to education, hard work and civic duty. Tom has made a successful career in the insurance industry and taken on unexpected challenges, such as working to insure US embassies across the world after 9/11 and most recently to secure coverage for California residents who continue to lose their homeowners insurance due to fire risk. He moved to Murphys in 2008 to help care for his mother during her final weeks of terminal brain cancer. There, he met his wife Kimberly, got married and started a family. Tom’s life experience and values inspired him to run for school board, and today for the California State Senate.

Tom Pratt is a Democrat running for California’s 8th Senate District, which encompasses eleven counties and is currently held by termed-out Senator Tom Berryhill. Pratt is a member and former chair of the Calaveras County Democratic Central Committee and was elected to the Vallecito Union School Board in 2014.
