CHP Releases Details On Angels Camp Car Jacking

Angels Camp, CA…On June 9th, 2015, at approximately 1345 hours, Calaveras County advised they were in pursuit of a the Subject Vehicle (S/V), a white Toyota Sienna, westbound on SR-12 at Central Hill Road. The S/V had been reported as a stolen motor vehicle stolen in Angels Camp out of a car jacking. Due to the Party 1’s (P-1) (Taormina) reckless driving behavior, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Deputies were unable to safely keep up with the S/V and lost sight of the vehicle near Burson Road. P-1 continued to drive at a high rate of speed estimated at approximately 90 miles per hour as he entered the town of Wallace. P-1 entered a left hand curve in the roadway and due to his speed he was unable to negotiate the curve. S/V traveled off the north side of the roadway where it struck a two utility poles, four Blue Aptos pine trees, and two oleander trees.

During the collision, the S/V overturned and came to rest overturned on its roof on the north shoulder of SR-12 east of Wards Avenue. Sheriff’s Deputies continued westbound and encountered the S/V at its point of rest. The deputy observed P-1 attempting to exit the S/V and flee and took him into custody without further incident. Angels Camp Police Department responded to the scene and took custody of P-1 where he was transported to Mark Twain Hospital and then booked into the Calaveras County Jail.

Drugs and/or alcohol are not believed to be a factor in this collision.
