Dorrington, CA…Phil Orville Harris, 76, passed away Saturday, June 13 in Palo Alto, CA following a two year battle with lung cancer. He leaves his wife of 53 years, Linda Jean (Curtis) Harris, sons Gregory Curt Harris and Marc Phillip Harris and seven grandchildren. He is preceded in death by son Kevin Shawn Harris…
Born in Ennis, Montana, Phil moved with his family to California in 1940. After graduating from Vallejo High School in 1956, he served in the US Navy before going on to earn bachelors and masters degrees in correctional counseling. Phil devoted his career to criminal rehabilitation, spending the majority of it as a parole agent for the State of California where his uncompromising ethic and integrity earned him the respect of both colleagues and those he served.
Phil lived and worked in San Jose, California from 1972 to 1996 then retired to his dream home in the small town of Dorrington, CA in the Sierra Mountains. Phil was an avid outdoorsman who loved sailing, hunting, fishing, and anything else he could do outside. In his lifetime Phil visited the great pyramids of Egypt, hiked the mountains of Peru and scuba dove the waters of the Great Barrier Reef. Phil was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many leadership positions.
Services will be held Saturday, June 20th at 1:00 PM at the LDS Church at 400 Bret Harte Road in Murphy’s, CA.
