Firefighters Make Quick Work of 16 Acre Messing Fire ~ Chip Dingman

Valley Springs, CA…The Messing fire was dispatched at about 8:59 AM. This fire was dispatched as 3 separate fires. There was a small roadside fire located by an engine responding to the original dispatched location. This engine handled this fire and continued to the dispatched location. The initial size up for this fire was 5 acres, slow rate of spread with one structure in the patch of the fire. Continue all responding units.


Due to the quick attack on this fire the structure was left unharmed. The dozer that was dispatched to this fire cut a line between the structure and fire and then continued to cut a line around most of the fire. The was some area left that the dozer couldn’t get to and the crews that responded to this fire handled.

At last report from the IC the fire was at 16 acres and the forward progress had been stopped. The engines that responded to this fire would be committed for approximately 2-3 hours for the mop up.
