Suspect Arrested for Attempted Burglary at Gas Station in Valley Springs

Valley Springs, CA…On 8-1-18 at about 0355 hours, CCSO Deputies were dispatched to an alarm call at the 76 Gas Station in Valley Springs. A deputy arrived on scene within minutes and saw the front glass door to the business was shattered and there was a male subject in the parking lot of the business. The male subject, later identified as 46 year old Richard Haight of Valley Springs, was detained at the scene.

The Deputy determined through statements and review of video surveillance that Richard Haight had thrown a large concrete block at the front door of the business and attempted entry. Richard Haight was arrested for 594(b)(1)PC-vandalism, 664/459PC-attempted burglary, and 11377(a)H&S-possession of methamphetamine.

He was transported to the Calaveras County Jail where he was also booked for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant out of Tuolumne County. Since his incarceration in the jail this morning, Richard Haight is also pending further charges after he assaulted another inmate in custody. Haight’s bail amount is still pending. No further information.
