Kirkwood, CA…On 8-10-2018 at approximately 1105 hours, Jim Hutton a resident of Sacramento and his passenger, Theresa Lish a resident of Auburn were traveling eastbound at approximately 50 miles per hour on their 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle on SR-88 behind 5 other motorcycles in a group. When they were east of Mormon Emigrant Trail, Mr. Hutton was in the last or trail position behind the rest of the group and a pickup truck. Approximately .1 miles east of Mormon Emigrant trail a semi truck with two trailers loaded with large bales of Alfalfa hay, driven by Timothy Roe, a resident of Hanford was traveling westbound rounding a right hand curve in the roadway approaching the group of motorcycles.

The semi truck was traveling too fast for the curve in the roadway and the hay bales on the rear trailer began to shift to the left dragging the trailer with it. The first five motorcycles were able to get past the trailer as it was in process of rolling over. A pick up truck was ahead of Mr. Hutton and steered to the right and braked then accelerated to avoid the impact

Mr. Huston and his passenger then had no where to escape as the 1000 pound, plus or minus bales spilled off of the trailer as it rolled onto its left side and into the eastbound traffic lane. One bale or more struck the Harley Davidson motorcycle, Mr. Hutton and his passenger.

The motorcycle was immediately forced back and slammed into the steel guardrail that bordered the south edge of the roadway. The rider and passenger were ejected off of the motorcycle and the rider came to rest under the steel guardrail and the passenger was ejected past the guardrail and came M rest in the vegetation approximately 20 feet from the roadway.

Both were pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS personnel.
