CHP Sonora Seeking Help to Locate Hit and Run Suspect After Sonora Girl Struck on Campo Seco

Sonora, CA…At approximately 6:15p.m. on the evening of Tuesday, November 13, 2018, Ruth Shopp of Sonora, was walking or jogging in an eastbound direction on Campo Seco Road after dark. Shopp was traveling along the north edge of the roadway, just east of Crooked Lane, headed toward Lime Kiln Road, when she was struck by a passing westbound vehicle. Shopp sustained serious injuries and was knocked into the tall grass on the north shoulder of the road where she was not easily seen in the darkness.

The driver of the as-yet unidentified vehicle failed to stop at the scene and instead drove away, presumably westbound on Campo Seco Road. The driver also failed to notify emergency medical responders or law enforcement of the collision or of Shopp’s immediate need for medical aid, and failed to return to the collision scene. Broken vehicle parts from the suspect vehicles’ front lighting components and/or side mirror were found strewn about the westbound traffic lane at the collision site and were collected by the Highway Patrol as evidence.
