Blizzard Warning Above 6,500 Feet Beginning Wednesday Evening. Some Areas May Receive Up To 9 Feet of Snow

Arnold, CA…The National Weather Service in Sacramento has issued a Blizzard warning for our area. Carson, Ebbetts & Sonora Pass areas are forecast to receive the deepest layers of snow from these systems. Heavy snow expected above 5000 feet. Blizzard conditions expected above 6500 feet beginning Wednesday evening. Travel will be very difficult to impossible, including during the morning commute on Thursday. The combination of a heavy, wet snow with high winds may down power lines and trees. Between 5000 and 6500 feet, total snow accumulations of 2 to 3 feet, with localized amounts up to 4 feet, are expected. Above 6500 feet, heavier snowfall is likely with accumulations of 5 to 7 feet, locally up to 9 feet.

.A pair of weather systems will move through the region spreading
heavy snowfall accumulations to the Sierra Nevada and Southern
Cascades. The winter storm currently moving through should wind
down by late Wednesday morning with a brief lull ahead of the
more impactful disturbance. The trailing system arriving
Wednesday evening could produce several feet of snowfall
accompanied by high winds leading to blizzard/whiteout
conditions. Travel will be dangerous to nearly impossible, and is
strongly discouraged.

visibility at times. Winds gusting as high as 75 mph will cause
blizzard/whiteout conditions in blowing snow. Significant
drifting of the snow is likely. Travel will be dangerous and is
not advised.

inches west of Highway 395 above 7000 feet, are expected. Winds
gusting as high as 95 mph for ridge tops.

Wednesday night through Thursday: Heavy snow accumulations of
2 to 5 feet is forecast west of Highway 395 above 7000 feet with
blizzard conditions forecast. 10 to 20 inches elsewhere above
7000 feet. Winds gusting as high as 100 mph for ridge tops.
Between 6000 and 7000 feet, up to 6 inches is forecast.
