Angels Camp, CA…Doris Anna Porovich, 94, of Angels Camp, passed away on January 23, 2019, in Sonora, California, after a short battle with cancer. She was born on December 14, 1924, to Thomas and Belle Ann Sleeman of Jamestown, California. Surviving are her children, Gary Porovich (Siri) of Eureka, Nevada, and David Porovich (Laura) of Jamestown; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous relatives in Calaveras County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chris Porovich, and her daughter, Donna McGeorge.
After graduating from Bret Harte High School in 1944, Doris worked at the box factory in Toyon where she met her beloved future husband. They were married in 1947. She was a staple to the community, having raised her family in Angels Camp, on Porovich Hill.
Doris focused her time and energy on her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, family, and church. She was a people person and enjoyed visiting.
Doris was a huge San Francisco Giants fan and enjoyed watching them on television. She also loved playing bingo, slot machines, and baking sweets for her family (yet she would sneak some for herself). She was well known for her banana cakes and apple pies.
A funeral service in memory of Doris will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at Union Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, 1141 Main Street, Angels Camp. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice, or Union Congregational Church, United Church of Christ.
