Squatters Arrested After Occupying Mono Way Building

Sonora, CA…The property owner of a building located on the 13000 block of Mono Way in Sonora called the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office ‪Wednesday morning‬ after he discovered squatters inside. Deputies arrived a short time later and surrounded the building before ordering the subjects outside. 47-year-old Jerome Zylstra, 32-year-old Brian Shrader, 39-year-old Jessica Gogas, and 41-year-old Jeremy Tosto exited the building.

During a search Zylstra was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and Gogas and Tosto were in possession of drug paraphernalia. A records check showed Zylstra had an outstanding arrest warrant and Shrader had been released from custody on his own recognizance from a prior case. The property owner estimated several hundred dollars worth of damage had been caused by the squatters. The four were arrested for burglary and various other charges.

The two dogs who were with the group were turned over to a Tuolumne County Animal Control Officer for care.
